Commentary

Another lite week lets some smaller titles shine.

1. I am blaming this firmly on college kids. I know I read the book in college and that age seems to have an affinity for the series.

2. NEW KRYPTON effect... see if it lasts. I know I was upset by yet another round of Kara's origin, we'll see if readers feel as upset about it.

5. We love Hickman and so do our customers. Can't wait to see what Secret Warriors does.

7. The story is pretty solid so both Legacy and Origins saw bumps during this arc.

9. RIP fever after effects.
1. I'd like to know how well the book is selling in more "progressive" (read: liberal) areas.

2. I haven't noticed a big backlash from the kryptonite poisoning gimmick. Looks like people are giving them room to work on their new angle.

3. That came out again? And non-pull-list people are buying it? Shocking.

5. I guess I need to check out more of his work. I tend to come late to the party on critically successful Image books.

9. Yet, the "tie-ins" really had nothing to do with RIP. Certainly people buying this issue already realized by now?

  1. Was FF the 'death' issue? Maybe that was the reason.

And I'd disagree in calling the Original Sin story "solid" (unless you meant in terms of sales), Mike Carey's parts were great while Daniel Way's were awful. Just about what you would have expected then.

  2. Original Sin was, in my opinion, a bit of a letdown, & one of the reasons I'll be taking a break from the X-Titles for a while. Just not feeling the new direction I got sucked in by Messiah Complex, which I thought was great, but have since then felt the titles were basically floundering for a direction.

That was the much hyped "Death of Invisble Woman" issue.

  3. What Duke University isn't liberal?... you'd be surprised how many people don't pay attention to a writer's politics or online ramblings. Us interwebbers are a little more aware then the rest of the world.

@ Huxford RIP tie-ins are a curiosity and the week before the final RIP issue, it was the only bat title of note on the stands.

@ Zod and Paul... Original Sin was better then either book was prior to the story line, so "solid" is a relative turn and sales usually don't decline when the last issue is a let down. Heck Batman's RIP conclusion was proof of that.

  4. Yeah, that's for sure - I only picked up Wolverine Origins for the tie-in & Deodato art. I had thought Legacy started off strongly, but kind of petered under the whole "let's show Professor X what a dick he was to everyone" storyline they had going on. That, & trying to tie together too much past continuity really dragged the book down in my opinion.

It's unfortunate that the Bat-verse crossovers of late have been so poorly executed (in my opinion.) First the Resurrection crossover & now RIP has failed to have a sense of cohesiveness. It was almost as if the other writers didn't know what Morrison's end game was either.

  5. Re: other writers: It seemed that way, eh? ;)

  6. I was trying to afford him at least some benefit of the doubt :)

  7. to be fair, the final two issues of Morrison's run and evidentally an issue of Final Crisis may actually be the end... as far as cohesiveness though I thought 681 did a good job of tying the book together... the rest was just set up for Battle for the Cowl

  8. I don't like the notion of buying an 8-part story promoted to "forever change Batman" only to get to the end & read "To be continued in our big crossover event."

  9. Just DC following MArvel's lead, just wait until you read SI #8. OR better yet, the head scratching will really start with Batman 682.

  10. Yeah, SI #8 was pretty much Dark Reign #0. I skipped Batman 682 - I skimmed through it & put it right back on the shelf. It's the first time I haven't bought Batman since I was 8 (I'm 29 now).

  11. Your loss. 682 was a great issue.
