Adam Hughes' GHOST Sketch From Baltimore

Completed Sketch Protocol

Over on Hughes-Fans, a link to the above image was shared. The question was asked as to whether Adam had colored the sketch or someone else.

Allison Sohn (artist and Adam Hughes' significant other, I believe) expressed that it wasn't done by Adam and the coloring was done without his knowledge. A member of the list (Scott Forbes) revealed that the coloring was done by "Cakes".

I got the sense that it meant that the coloring of the image might have been seen as breaking some unwritten rule or violating some sort of sketch etiquette. That isn't necessarily the case, but I have seen some peculiar issues that artists have had with how their sketches are treated after they're completed and handed over to the fan.

Anyone have a list of sketch etiquette for after the work is completed? Because I'm lost on that. I figure you pay for it, you could color it with crayons and go outside the lines if you're foolish enough to think it is a good idea.

Adam Hughes: The Achilles...Thumb?

Hey all;

As many of you know; Adam sustained an injury to his drawing hand while at Heroes Con
a couple of weeks ago. Thinking it was less serious than it was, we sat back and waited for
it to heal. When that didn't seem to be working, Adam visited a hand specialist. And what
he had to say this afternoon was tremendously disappointing. Adam should be 100%
healed by the end of October.

Yup. Halloween. You read right.

It seems Adam tore the collateral ligament on the thumb of his drawing hand. When he did
so, a piece of bone also broke away with it. If you visit Adam's Myspace page later tonight,
he plans on posting images of his X-ray there.

So...what does this mean? It means a convention season that may be without sketching
and signing. The doctor says Adam can use the hand, but it will hurt, and hurt alot. So he
should only use it as much he feels comfortable with.

Ouch. On the bright side, the Catwoman cancellation timing now seems a bit fortuitous.

Adam Hughes Convention Selling Plans

From Allison Sohn on the Hughes-Fan Yahoo Group, regarding what prints Adam Hughes will have for sale at what conventions:

Chun Li, I believe I stated earlier, will be at San
Diego. Part of Adam's agreement with Udon is that he
can do prints for San Diego, but no sooner. San Diego
marks the release of the book that the Chun Li art is
featured in.

The Rocketeer, as previously stated, is also for San
Diego. That was as close to a "home town show" for
Dave Stevens as it got. Also, as it will be a
charitable fund raiser, it makes sense to bring it to
the show with the highest attendance.

I have no idea what the "ASWW teaser" is... and I'm
the one making the prints. Anyone care to clue me in?

I bring this to the blog for the rumor of their being an All Star Wonder Woman teaser print...and Ms. Sohn's shooting it down by saying she hasn't heard a thing about it. So...unless DC is printing up some giveaways of an All Star Wonder Woman drawing, it looks like anyone buying into that rumor will be disappointed. Shame...it might have indicated that things were closer to being published.

I brought more than the teaser image discussion so that I could plug the charity sale of Adam's Rocketeer prints. Make sure to pick some up, folks.

Adam Hughes Makes Star Wars Legacy So Tempting

I've bought a few issues of Star Wars Legacy, but I can't remember where I left off so I'm always hesitant to try to start picking it up again for fear of duplicating a purchase or skipping something and missing out.

Adam Hughes does his best to make me stop worrying about that regularly.

AH! & Power Girl?

A fan over on the Adam Hughes e-mail list asked the following:

So, I am assuming this is the book Adam was going to do covers for initially as mentioned by Allison. Damn shame if it was.

Allison Sohn responded:

that is incorrect.

In fact, that book was originally to have covers by Aaron Lopresti. Once Adam's cover gig was given to another artist, and Aaron was moved to moved to another title, this book was offered to Adam as a sort of "sorry buddy, what about this one instead?". At that point, we had already decided the best move for Adam to make was to complete All Star Wonder Woman. And anyway, I can't wait to see what Amanda comes up with!

That's one title ruled out as the subject of the snub...and way too many left to be any closer to figuring it out. ;)

Adam Hughes Snubbed By DC Editorial?

From the Adam Hughes fan e-mail list, Allison Sohn (artist and significant other of Adam) relayed the following when asked what Adam would be doing for covers after the Catwoman cancellation:

Adam was told back at San Diego Comic Con, in July of 2007 that Catwoman was coming to an end. At that time, DC offered Adam a new book to be cover artist on. It was to be a new title to DC, and Adam would get to be cover artist from issue one. However, within a couple of months, the powers that be at DC Comics turned around and gave that same job to another up and coming artist, without giving Adam the courtesy of letting him know he was off the title. Instead, we found out from the replacement artist. Since then DC has offered Adam several other titles to do covers on, which Adam has declined. Adam and I both agree it is in his best interest to focus on completing All Star Wonder Woman.

That's a shite way to treat the talent.
