How Not To Pimp Your Blog 101

Some Newsarama poster has spent the last few days pimping his blog in the comments section of front page articles. He comes up with a few generic, on-topic sentences...then points to how something he thinks is related to that topic can be found on his blog. It was kind of embarrassing when he had to suggest he thought there was a link between the Guardians of the Galaxy series and Secret Invasion, just because he didn't have any GotG stuff at his blog but did have SI theories there.

I bet the GoG get their say in the Secret Invasion too!! I loved the old GoG series and I'm looking forward to this totally different take on the group.

We have lots of Secret Invasion theories + more at http://thenoblog.com/

If anyone wants to check it out.

Man...I'm sorry, but that's lame. The 'Rama don't take kindly to that kind of pimping, either.

  2. Right...I believe you're THAT guy.

I did debate whether to plug the blog-pimper...but it was worth it. ;)

  3. Well actually, I have stated a number of times on the No-Blog that all of the Annihilation stuff is tied to Marvel's big SI. Annihilus was in the original Kree-Skrull War so Annihilation MUST be related somehow. Even Quesada said as much in the back of SI#1.

I own the No-Blog and I have a couple of contributors. I did go on a bit of a participation/advertising loop yesterday and now realize I may have gone overboard.

But it got your attention so it's worth it.

    fmyii - out!!!

  4. y2k, I read this blog every single day. A lot of people do.

I checked out your No-Blog. What are the images so large? The image you are hot linking from Newsarama for DC UNIVERSE #0 is displayed at a whopping 461 x 715 pixels. That's far too big. I usually resize comic covers to 175 x 272 pixels. Do you see how everything looks jagged and choppy? That's because you are restraining a 600 x 932 image into the before mentioned 461 x 715.

I would encourage you to not hot link photos and instead host photos on your own site. Many people think hot linking photos is stealing.

I'm not going to beat up on you for pimping your site on Newsarama. It's not like your website is dedicated to selling dick pills.

  5. I agree about the photo size. I am not the only contributor and the other guys are new to posting any type of stuff. Hell, we're all pretty new. You already figured that out though.

As for the "pimpin'", well, I have tried to make amends for that. I got some quality advise from some folks and am rectifying my un-community-like behavior.

    But...From Marvel.com:
"Infinity Watch Super-Skrull (Adam Warlock, Moondragon, Gamora, Pip & Drax) vs the new Guardians of the Galaxy

Aside from providing the sheer visual enjoyment of Adam Warlock, Gamora, bald Moondragon, hooved Pip the Troll, and burly Drax the Destroyer all rolled into one crazy body, the raw, extraterrestrial power of this hypothetical Super-Skrull would be off the meter. Pitted against a Skrulled-out Infinity Watch, half of the newly established Guardians of the Galaxy would clash with themselves, adding to the intrigue. Of course, the Skrull replication process wouldn't yield duplicate Infinity Gems or the Gauntlet, and with deal-breakers Rocket Racoon and Phyla-Vell on the Guardians' side, we say the new kids on the cosmic block win it."

Woo-Hoo!! and you bagged me for posting an unrelated URL link to the GoG post.

So can we be friends now? I actually dig most of your rants. Especially your Guggenheim bashing. I hate that guy!

Well, the post entitled "Go Speed Racer, D’oh!" shows it was authored by you. It has one of those huge hot linked photos your blog is quickly getting known for.

  7. Heh...I don't bash Guggenheim. That blog is a joke. There are others who I could argue deserve a bashing, but I've backed off commenting on them for the most part. ;)

And hey...I wish you the best. I just think trying to shoehorn a blog ad into a post that was clearly only made so you could pimp your blog is a lil desperate. ;)

It is preferred that you sign some sort of name to your posts, rather than remain completely anonymous. Even if it is just an internet nickname/alias, it makes it easier to get to know the people that post here. I hope you all will give it some consideration. Thank you.
