Confirmation That Jen Grunwald Is Marvel_b0y

Why is it that no one at Marvel appears willing to confess to and address the Marvel_b0y excessively shite-y viral marketing campaign?

Mr. Anonymous (no, Marvel didn't find out who he was and make him sleep with Namor) has found out that, for at least the Windows Live iteration, it definitely was Jen Grunwald. I contend that it was always her and done with the blessing of Bendis and others the whole time.

Ms. Grunwald is an admin at the Bendis boards. She'd definitely have had the power to idiotically reactivate and rename the Marvel_b0y account over on the Bendis boards. The horridly fake game of cat and mouse between her and Bendis the whole time clearly points to his being complicit in the whole deal. I've heard whispers of others at Marvel being involved in the process, but then they turned up on the MySpace viral campaign...so it might have just been crossed signals.

I'd really like to know why Marvel doesn't own up to their goof. Come clean and put it to rest. Someone should pose that question to Joe Quesada this week.

  1. I DID pose that question last week right here:

    Marvel Board Link

    And it was ignored!

  2. Either my IP is blocked or the Marvel board is having problems, because I can't try to post something narrowing down the question to Gruenwald.

  3. Just a note: it's Grunwald, no E, and no relation to Mark.

Plus: what does Marvel have to own up to, anyway? A half-assed attempt at viral something-or-other backfired. Does it really matter?

  4. Fixed the spelling, Garrett...thanks.

What do they have to own up to?

The collateral damage that is caused by they, themselves, spewing venom about their own creators in some opt-in campaign. It helps encourage and foster more such activity. YES, it would happen to some extent anyway, but that's a specious argument.

The way they tried to chase down sites that had the Marvel_b0y spoilers posted on them to some extent. They were harassing sites over the spoilers that they themselves WANTED OUT THERE, because giving good people stress helped add a bit of reality to the whole thing.

I could go on. But there was plenty wrong with that campaign and it would really be best if Marvel owned up to it, apologized, and let all interested parties know that they learned from the mistake.

  5. Uh... Is there confirmation that it is JG, or is the post title intended as more suggestive than declarative?

  6. Depends on whether you trust Mr. Anonymous or not. He's been spot on so far and I trust his sources.

  7. Another clue to Mb's ID was that the only person ever mentioned in a positive light was Jen.

Plus, the age one the live account said 28, and Jen was born (according to Wiki) in 1980, so she'll be 28 this year.

I've been saying since the first post I read that it was her for no reason other than the use of Mb saying Jen was the hottest girl in comics. That's the kind of arrogance that an editor at Marvel would have.

  11. It was a not-that-successful attempt at viral marketing. Any creator whose honor may have been besmirched is obviously cool with it, so why make it into a Thing? oh wait, I know why...Kevin here is trying to make it big in the "blogosphere."

Good luck to ya, Bag Boy.

  12. Right...making a bit of a deal about it will make me huge? C'mon.

Maybe I should go back to blocking anonymous posts? I might be enabling people who are trying to avoid responding to a "delusional blogger". ;)

  13. You're going to NYCC right? Are you going to ask Marvel about this there?

  14. Depends. I'm up for my own enjoyment this year, which means I can ask such a question if I want. But, at the same time, I'm not going to skip a panel I'd prefer to see just to hit a Marvel panel to ask the question.

    I'll check the schedule shortly.

It is preferred that you sign some sort of name to your posts, rather than remain completely anonymous. Even if it is just an internet nickname/alias, it makes it easier to get to know the people that post here. I hope you all will give it some consideration. Thank you.
