Over in my Paint-By-Twitter coverage of the Eisners (which will be bumped up to appear just below this blog), there was the suggestion that Frank Miller may have been drunk when he appeared behind the podium:
jamessime Special surprise Eisner host is drunken slurring Frank Miller. Having a hard time saying 'Spirit.' graemem @jamessime Frank Miller was AWESOME. Drunk old men should always begin award ceremonies.
Now that there's video of it up on the 'net (which Kevin Melrose brought to my attention via his post at Blog@Newsarama), I leave it up to you. You make the call!
Absolutely drunk. I think I still have audio of the NYCC Spirit panel, and he's about 20 times more coherent in that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is what he's like when he's writing All-Star Batman?
"What are you retar(hic!)retar(hic)...stupid? I'm the godda(hiccup)god(hiccup)...I'm the scary, nutty guy!"
ReplyDeleteI dunno, maybe, but whats the matter with that? I like his bit at the end about forgetting the movies and games.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I haven't followed any sat or sun con news. Crappy weekend, I'll have to catch up tomorrow. From what I hear there wasn't much cool stuff apart from Gaiman writing Batman. I like the sund of Diggle on Thuderbolts too.
I'm not judging him for being drunk...it was just something semi-entertaining to blog about. I'll leave the judging up to others.
ReplyDeleteI would have boozed it up if I was there, too. If I was appearing on stage, I might have held off until after, though. ;)
Hell yeah, free booze galore, and everyone treating you like a God.
ReplyDeleteRemember when Frank said Wizard magazine was what was wrong with the comic industry. I don't think h thinks too much about his actions :)
I'm not judging the guy - hell, if I'm gonna be drunk, why not be on stage?
ReplyDeleteBut the man's been imbibing - no doubt.
Yeah, he probably has. But this is Frank Miller, what do you expect :) If it was Stan Lee or something, no THAT would be sensational.
ReplyDeleteMost involved thing I've attempted to do drunk is karaoke. But in front of everyone who is at that show? Well...if I already had "fuck you" money (at least as far as the comic book industry), maybe I would go up there drunk, too. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Kevin, just wanted to say that Frank was definitely drunk. He was on that awful Attack of the Show being interviewed by Chris Gore (does DVD reviews) and was drunk as a skunk 9though at the time I wondered if he was high). He kept looking at the camera and not the interviewer and was slurring his words like a pirate who drank all the grog he could muster. That or something more illicit but I have no proof and people mentioned he had a darkish brown beverage while on stage. I think he kinda sobered up before going on stage however. To each their own.
ReplyDeleteRon and Fez noon to three! LINGER LONGER!
Thanks for the info, Valis, and plugging Ron & Fez. ;)
